Romane Miguel, 18 years old

Volunteer in her tennis club since she was 11 years old

I admit that at first I followed my parents when I was little. We all went together, so I followed them a bit. But in the end I got into the game. The fact that I’m with a lot of people I know, that I like and that it’s a good atmosphere, that we all talk to each other, that we eat together, that we drink together. To meet new people, to know that it’s an important day for the club, it’s something that’s close to my heart and to my family. It gave me responsibility. It made me realise that I like to help, to participate in something collective.

Sofiane Mouadeb, 18 years old

Volunteer in his football club and in the Croix-Rouge

What struck me was that there were many, many poor people. For example, when we are on the street, we think we are all more or less the same, we are all more or less equal, except that there are many people who are destitute and who do not have enough money to pay for their food. And that’s what struck me the most.
I think it’s in my nature to help people because I’ve always helped people, even if I wasn’t in an association for example.
For me it’s just a smile, there’s no need for words. With a smile, I am happy too.

Sylvie Dalon, 65 years old

Croix-Rouge volunteer since 2011

As an employee I found it good to help the volunteers. Then I became a volunteer to help all those people who are in need. At the same time, it allows me to see many things.
I take care of everything social, the food distribution. I receive the beneficiaries. I study their file which arrives by email from their social worker. I work on them again and I give them an appointment for the food distribution to help them with clothing or possibly financial aid or clothing.
My first activity was to look after people and help support them. Now it’s people who come for help, people who need to talk. And I realise that this is as exciting as anything I have ever done.

Stéphane Laurent, 45 years old

Volunteer in cultural events

I mainly have experience in cultural and musical events. The first volunteer work I did was in the association that I created with my music group, with which we organised metal concerts in 2001.
It’s an opening to others. It’s a completely free gift of self. And I think that in fact, in a world, in a society today where everything has taken on a value, everything is commercial. There are many things that revolve around the value of money and the fact of owning a lot of stuff and spending money on yourself, to buy stuff you don’t care about. Volunteering is a bit of a break in the middle, in the middle of this frantic pace, and it brings a lot of things, a lot of skills

Evelyne Le Gravier, 67 years old

Volunteer for over 32 years

I started volunteering because I wanted to be a first aider in the field and then get out a bit, see something else.
We’re always getting a little bit better every week. We work as a team, we are all a team. We help each other, we are always there to improve.
I enjoy helping people on a daily basis.

Nicole Rapinel, 63 years old

Croix-Rouge volunteer

What made me decide to do voluntary work was that I was retired and I was totally helpless because I felt useless. I was no longer useful. So I really had to get busy and meet people again, so that I could be useful and be in contact with all the other volunteers. Doing good deeds.
I really enjoy it. I like the Red Cross. I have found a little family with the volunteers and with the beneficiaries too.
It gave me the desire to continue, it gave me the desire to move forward, something I had lost when I retired, and I even managed to get my husband, who has been a volunteer for four years, on board.
